PerMiCCion is a strategic research alliance of world-leading researchers joining forces to apply personalized microbiome-based approaches to help in the early detection, monitoring, treatment, and prevention of colorectal cancer (CRC).

  • Q. What is CRC?

    Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a disease in which cells in the colon or rectum grow out of control. More than 5 million people in the Globe are living with CRC1. CRC is the third most common cancer worldwide and in the last decades, its incidence in young adults has increased at an alarming rate.





  • Q. Why study the gut microbiota?

    Global Westernization of diets, synthetic food dyes, physical inactivity, and sedentary behavior, are among the key risk factors to develop CRC. The gut microbiota is at the intersection of early-onset CRC and those risk factors and can be seen as a dynamic living sensor of any change in the human body.
